      Hello everybody,

my swedish sucks, so I hope you guys are ok with english? Anyway, I have problem. I’m thinking of buying a Subaru Impreza WRX Sti from Germany and import it to Sweden. After a year or so I’m going to move to Finland and take the car with me. The thing is, I’m not sure what kind of aftermarket mods are allowed in Sweden. For excample I’m thinking of this car here:

      http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-sport-sittensen/187158404.html?lang=en&pageNumber=1&__lp=2&scopeId=C&sortOption.sortBy=searchNetGrossPrice&makeModelVariant1.makeId=23500&makeModelVariant1.modelDescription=sti&makeModelVariant1.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant2.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant3.searchInFreetext=false&minFirstRegistrationDate=2008-01-01&maxPrice=25000&export=ALSO_EXPORT&maxMileage=80000

It has a bunch of mods I’m not sure are steet legal, for example the down pipe? What do you think? And in more general level, is importing a car from Germany to Sweden easy job? Do I have to pay some kind of taxes? All imput is appreciated! Thanks!

      Regards,

The boring answer, the car should be 100% stock to get past the registration check.

I know that this tread is about importing from UK but you maybe find some helpful tips there

The boring answer, the car should be 100% stock to get past the registration check.

I came to the same conclusion but from a different starting point (see here: http://www.subaruclub.se/forum/showthread.php?t=94993), namely how do I get my heavily modified Forester insured?

The short answer is you can’t. Insurance companies in Sweden will not insure declared mods. You wouldn’t believe this judging by the amount of souped up cars on the roads around here.

I did come across something whereby you can get your car officially registered as ”modded” and then insured as such. I can’t remember exactly but I think it was done by SFRO and costs a lot.

In short, if you mod your car, have an accident and the insurance company states your mods are to blame, you’ll get nothing. Puts a whole new meaning to, pay to play 🙂

                I hope this helps.

                Cheers,
                Scott

Hmmm… Doesn’t sound good then. It could be hard for insurance companies to show that the mods are to blame in the case of an accident. On the other hand, if it’s impossible to register modded car in the first place, I guess I have to try and find un-modded one. Shame, the one I was looking for seemed brilliant!
